I did it again! I inadvertently wore an outfit to work that Mitchell said would be date appropriate. She even did a hand circle motion when pointing it out to me.

I'm also wearing my Uhura boots but that might not be the best thing for a date...I probably couldn't resist talking about Star Trek and from there it's a short descent into a full on Nell from the movie Nell outburst.

I also tried a new eye makeup style.

For the past 10 years I've been obsessed with wearing Orange eyeshadow but today I tried a dark sparkly blue.

I thought it was too dark but Libby and Mitch said they liked it a lot.

I'm so bummed - Libby announced her retirement today.

She's my best friend at work. She's a good friend in real life too so I will still see her but it's never the same, you know?

Remember how disappointed you were with 'The La's' cd when you bought it in 1991. The cover art is one of my favorites but I find it un-listenable.

Saturday I was driving through Hollywood proper with Cindy and I got a shout out from a girl driving past my car on the road.

She screamed, "IDIOT."

I had displeased her by opening my car door to exit as she sped past.

Aside from being un-ladylike, what especially bothered me is the frequency with which I suspect this happens (not to me specifically).

Why do people get so bent out of shape over things?

It's a blight on the face of humanity.

Our destination was the Cat & Fiddle for a beer after an errand.

When somebody is acting like a real jerk & you just want to say 'to hell with you' try to resist that urge. Sometimes you just have to say 'F-You' & walk away, but 99% of the time this would be wrong.

People don't act badly because they are bad. Most of the time they act like that because they are suffering or feel badly about something. Telling them where to go only exacerbates the situation.

When somebody is acting like a total dick that's when they need your kindness and ginger care more than ever.

This is always a challenge for me to remember.

So I was hanging out with my ex-husband yesterday in the first time in FOR ever.

The plan was to go to the Apple Store re-open today. After divorce scrapes away at your dignity and your ability to see your former spouse without leaping across the room and strangling him/her, your old traditions are kind of the last thing you have left as a vehicle to get along. For us that's the Apple Store and waiting in line hours early to get the new products we love as soon heavenly possible.

I have this mantra that I say in the mornings:

I dyed my hair a darker brown yesterday.

It's been a year since I dyed it anything. It was a bright 'my so called life' red but when my Mom got sick I just colored it brown. It was one more thing in my life I wasn't going to be able to maintain.

I wasn't going to dye it again until I had to -
like if I got gray hairs or something but ultimately it's good for my hair's texture. My hair is baby fine and there's a ton of it so a little damage makes it more pliable. We're still talking about my hair, right?

I'm going to meet Cindy at the Arboretum right now where we'll be surrounded by cocks.

Painting your front door is one way to change the look of your house, add curb-appeal, and personalize your home with minimal effort. I'm thinking of changing my front door to a nice blue, something like this...

There is a house a few blocks away from me that has the entirety of their exterior painted a similar color. They also have an incredible garden in the front that balances it all so perfectly. I'll take some pictures to show you. It's inspiring. Also kind of terrifying; I have an irrational fear of insects.

So maybe the Google maps picture doesn't capture the appeal. I will temporarily post this picture and take a better one this weekend. I've been meaning to go roller skating soon and this will give me a good enough excuse. Although it has been a while and I can't promise how co-ordinated I'll be. Might scrape up a knee or two.

I'm not too worried about that, I've never been afraid of falling.

This kills me (and not because of how badly I need to redo my kitchen floors - or because I have NO IDEA how to turn it clockwise)

I was sitting in the kitchen doing laundry with Mina and she was totally ignoring me. You know she wanted nothing more than to come over and give me a kiss. I wanted her to give me a kiss too! She was pouting. Most likely I crossed her somehow for reasons unknown to me.

(By the way, it seems like I was playing the music really loud but I wasn't. I have the smallest little iPod dock - it was just by the camera when I was recording this)

I'm going to wallpaper in the next couple of weeks. Maybe one wall, maybe more. The wallpaper is a vintage Vera print I got at anthropologie. There's a lot of information on it but I really like the colors.

I feel like it matches the yellow tile and half of the kitchen that looks like a british pub with the carved wood ceiling...

This is Jupiter. I can't get him out of my head. I've only met him a couple of times but he's one of those really cool cats that you'll never forget. He lives on my cousin's horse ranch in Oregon. Jupiter is a really good host. The first night I slept there he slept with me and I had all these vivid dreams about him. This is the time of year that you'll need to trim your roses back if you want them flourish and thrive in the spring. It's going to feel like you're killing them but it's what they need to stay healthy.

It's finally the end of winter. I've been really busy in the garden this past year and I'm really excited to see what comes up this spring. Excited too because spring is my favorite time of year. It will be my birthday soon, and the majority of my clothes are for this season, and spring make-up has the best shades. One of the few things I have going for me is that I can wear any shade of lipstick and it will match perfectly.

At home I planted all of my roses in the front yard. I've got to trim them back this weekend. If you wait any longer it will be too late. (Don't wait - be brave - just ask me)

I found this jacket at my Grandma's today. It belonged to my Mom as part of a maternity set she used to wear when she was preggers with me. I haven't seen this in years! I used to wear it all the time in my early 20's. It was never that big on me but evidently now I can't even button it up.

Sometimes I'd run into LanAnh in the main lobby & we'd get to talking. All of the sudden she'd look over my shoulder and say something like, "if you look at me again I'm going to stab your eyes out [random expletive]." I'd turn to see who and it would be an elderly person with a walker smiling back at us. She'd always say those things within earshot too. I guess no one expected something like that to come out of her mouth so they never paid attention. She was a preppy accountant who wore glasses.

She put this copy of her driver's license where a photo would have gone in a plastic CD carrying case. It was the one of the best birthday presents I've ever received.

I was looking for a comment to share with you that I had made on my home page away from home that enraged some people to the point where it got kind of personal. They started coming after me like a pack of rabid honey badgers (I was totally right though). Such a non-issue really but some people just like getting bent out of shape over things.

This is funny too. I had forgotten about this man at the market. He was being so nice but my first reaction was he was stark raving mad, as you do...

It was such a lovely morning I decided to take a walk during break.

I stopped to take a picture of my leg warmers, as you do.

I added an infrared filter to this one - it kind of made my shadow look like it became its own form. I'm going to make the parallel I drew from that as brief as possible. You ready...

It was totally like that Star Trek episode 'The Alternative Factor' about this tortured man named Lazarus, whose presence causes a major drain on the ship's dilithium crystals as well as my patience.

It's not one of my favorites.

That episode is kind of excruciating to watch. Basically this guy Lazarus gets trapped in constant battle with the exact opposite of himself and each time they meet they sort of cause a disruption of time and space that's going to end it but good for the Enterprise. The solution requires Lazarus to be trapped in battle with his double for all of eternity. It's totally screwed up.

I will say that it's worth watching because they do address some basic points of Star Trek theory.....Oh my god did we just say that out loud at the same time?!?

I just signed up for a YouTube account and it's like a little time travel portal all your own. It's totally fun. And totally proof that I did actually just fall out of a wormhole. I realize YouTube isn't a new technology, but I haven't been on the internet this much in years. Things aren't the same as they were in 2001.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon updating my very neglected Facebook page. It took me 10 minutes to figure out how to get to a message, then I wasn't sure if I was typing on a wall, where that wall was, or where I was half the time. At one point I gasped as thought I'd started a club for me & my co-workers but it turns out it was just a list. I don't even know what that means. I know I couldn't figure out how to navigate a Facebook page if I had a gun to my head and my life depended on it. Or if you tagged me in a photo.

My Grandma is excited that Cardinal Mahoney is going to deliver mass

at her parish and I am too. The first time I saw him give the mass I was about 15. I've never seen so many nuns in full habit in a procession. They looked tougher than anything I've ever seen in a Quentin Tarrantino film.

One New Year's Task I've been successful at was cleaning out my email history.

There are a few ways to secure fences so they'll stand up straight

You can use a big steel drum you found in the yard.

(helps if it's rusty)

Giant cinder blocks work. You'll need at least three.

Did I ever tell you that I am a licensed pilot?

This is an example of what not to do.

Bungee cords are stretchy and you won't fully realize how stretchy
until you step away from your work to admire it.

What works best of all are fence poles.

Why no one installed any on the fences in my yard I have NO idea.
Without the posts the wind storm blew the fences down all too easily.

I was trying to figure out a way to reward myself for winning the karmic jackpot and decided a present was in order...a Christmas present for myself.

This year is it's 'The Roma Journeys' by Joakim Eskildsen.
It's a photographic diary of the Roma. It's one of the most beautiful collections I've seen. The focus isn't on their persecution, discrimination, or systematic annihilation. (thank GOD) It captures their family lives and quiet moments. There's a very still quality to every photo that I find very appealing.

Accompanying the book is a disc of Roma music specific to each geographical region covered by the chapters. (It seems Django Reinhardt was excluded from the set - don't even ask about Natalie Wood)

Every page is mesmerizing and thoughtful and charming. Just like you, the Roma, and me.

Obviously from the photo, I've stopped bothering to match my bed linens.
My room looks like a band of gypsies robbed an anthropologie store & decorated.

In actuality, anthropologie robbed me and I had do all the work.

I painted a lion pink and gave him a home in the backyard.

I created a succulent garden by the garage at Eli's former free dig space

(sorry Eli, you were tracking in too much dirt.)

That's the thing when you have dogs, you're just inviting more dirt into your home.

Although I will say huskies are one of the only breeds that self-groom like cats.
Just not their paws so much. That would be too weird anyway.

Actually, that's what you'll look like...

The worst of it is a wall repair guy named Georgio that does a slipshod job at patching up the walls using drywall, who brings his lunch over every other day he decides to show up. And lunch consists of 'Bud Lights' that 'Can he keep in the Fridge' because 'He brought one for me too'.

Actually what's worse than that is the neverending dust that the cleanup of the drywall leaves behind on hardwood floors that already have problems. But it's oh so nice to have electricity with actually non-cloth wires - and they're grounded!
What a luxury for a simple girl like me.
